Pipe / Vessel UT Thickness (UTT) testing

IMG_0694

Above is a typical pressure vessel requiring testing. Pictured is a compressor system with areas tested with an ultrasonic probe using connective gel.

The following items need to be checked for wall-thickness on an interval basis:

  • Fire Supression system
  • Main/waste water pipes
  • Pressure vessel/containment vessels
  • Parking lot lighting standards

The interval is every 5-15 years depending on material and the Rockwell scale. An ultra-sonic double echo probe is used with a data logger. Complete un-interupted data corresponding to linear loss requires a multipoint transducer and is more accurate but also more expensive than a single point transducer being placed and replaced to gather data.
